I think this raises an important question: how many Bothans would have died if they had just been assigned to stay home and do nothing? It’s hard to know if it’s worth sending them if you don’t know the baseline attrition rate for Bothans.

Maybe Bothans are just like a weaponized jar jar Binks: lethally clumsy and likely to cause destruction wherever they are. At least if they’re doing spy stuff they’re ruining someone else’s infrastructure in the process of winning themselves Darwin awards.
